If you visit Alcudia you must definitely visit its historic centre, it is one of Alcudia’s attractions and probably the most charming one. Keep reading to discover its secrets and get hyped to visit this amazing village.
Alcudia’s wall
The most impressive thing about the historic centre is how well conservated it is. The wall surrounding it is also in great shape.
King Jaume II ordered to build this incredible wall to protect this strategically important village against frequent attacks from pirates that used to sack villages and rape people to use them as slaves. When the wall was built it surrounded the whole village and protected the citizens from the dangers of the sea. It has a perimeter of more than 1 kilometre and it is 6 meters high. There are three main doors and twenty-six watchtowers that provided security to Alcudia. It was declared Conjunto Histórico Artístico in 1974.

If you visit the wall today you will be able to walk around the historic centre and enjoy the views of the old town, travelling back in time and discovering how Alcudia was in the XIV century.
I really recommend you to take a walk around the wall and, if you have the opportunity, I would suggest you visit it twice. Once during the day so you can appreciate every detail, make some photos, etc. And then at night time, when there are fewer people around, it is a bit colder and you can enjoy the calm ambient the historic centre has at night.
Alcudia’s ancient centre
Surrounded by the magnificent wall you will find a picturesque landscape of old houses (some of them have been there since the XIII century) that were built under the protection of the wall.

The historic centre is full of small beautiful streets and peaceful terraces. I encourage you to have dinner at one of these terraces, it is a magic experience.
If want to visit some iconic monuments you can go to La iglesia de San Jaume, la Capilla del Sant Crist and el teatre Romà. If you have nothing to do you can always get lost walking around the historic centre and discovering Alcudia’s secrets. And here goes a piece of advice: try to visit Alcudia on Tuesday or Sunday. Keep reading to know why?
Weekly market in the historic centre
Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays, there’s a market inside Alcudia’s wall. During these days Alcudia is full of live with people walking around and buying handmade. objects and food.

You’ll find everything you can think off and it is a great opportunity to taste some of our homemade products.
The perfect plan
So which would be the perfect plan? I believe the best thing to do is to spend a day in Alcudia. You can visit the weekly market during the morning and then go for a walk while discovering Alcudia’s story. Then you can go back to your hotel or go to the beach and come back at night to enjoy the ambient Alcudia has at night and have dinner at one of its beautiful terraces. Is there any better plan? I don’t think so.
